Sublimating on air freshener blanks is a great way to add some additional income to your sublimation business. It’s perfect for both beginners and experts. Because the blanks are so cheap, the profit margins can be incredibly high – especially if you provide customization. The actual sublimation process for air fresheners is quite simple, so anyone can get stunning results.
What are Air Freshener Sublimation Blanks?
Our air freshener blanks are made from 100% compressed polyester, which is why they sublimate so well. The compressed polyester is a stiff, yet flexible material that resembles a very stiff felt. We take this compressed polyester material and process it through our laser cutting machine. An intense beam of light is focused onto the material to create intricate shapes and an exact, perfect cut each time. The heat generated from the laser leaves a satisfying edge on the material, ensuring that there is no fraying of the edges.
How to Sublimate on Air Freshener Blanks
When doing air freshener sublimation, it’s best to sublimate first and add scent last. The heat generated from your heat press may mess with the chemical properties of whatever scent you choose, so adding it last is always recommended.
Here are the steps to sublimate on air fresheners:
- Prepare your sublimation transfer. You can use our templates to get the right size by visiting https://myblanks.net/templates
- For optimal results, run a lint roller over the material prior to sublimating. This prepares the surface of your blank and makes sure there’s no dust or other small materials in the way.
- Set your heat press to 400F.
- If you live in a very humid environment, it’s best to pre-press your blanks to get rid of any moisture.
- Position your transfer on top of your blank and then press at medium pressure for 40 seconds.
- Remove the transfer paper and let cool on a flat surface.
- Repeat these steps on the other side if desired.
Adding Scent to Your Air Freshener Blanks
Once you’ve created your sublimated air freshener, it’s time to add the scent! Some people will sell unscented blanks so that their customers can add their own custom scents. Others choose to create unique combinations of scents that their customers will love!
There are many different methods to add scent to your air fresheners. It’s a good idea to try a few different methods to see which one works the best for you.
Using Essential Oils
Essential oils are a popular option for adding scents to your air fresheners. The oils have a potent and lasting scent, making them a great option for air fresheners. To use essential oils with your blanks, add a drop on each corner of the blank, as well as a drop in the center. This will give even coverage of the scent and is enough for the scent to last. Once finished, it’s best to pack the air freshener inside a plastic bag for maximum scent retention.
When using essential oils, it’s a good idea to test your oil before using it on all of your blanks. Depending on the oil, there’s a chance that it could leave a mark on the blank. To prevent this from happening, you can dilute your oil with water and lightly mist it on the air freshener with a sprayer (making sure to shake well before spraying).
Other Scents for Air Fresheners
If you don’t have any essential oils, or if you want to try something different, a lot of our customers have had success using perfume or cologne to add scent to their blanks. This is one of the easiest methods of quickly adding scent to your air fresheners. Simply spray the blank once or twice on both sides and package in a plastic bag.
